Microsoft is looking to benefit from hybrid work rapid spread, and finding ways of extending its already felt presence within the social connection focused virtual world to organizations whose workforce work remotely. Microsoft is also determined to take advantage of its upcoming acquisition by Activision Blizzard, a game developer to increase its assets on metaverse.

Following a recent second-quarter earnings conference call, Microsoft’s senior representatives discussed the company’s metaverse-related plans, along with the release of the firm’s latest financial results.

“As the digital and physical worlds come together, we are seeing real enterprise metaverse usage,” said Satya Nadella, who’s the CEO and Chairman of the Redmond-based firm. “From smart factories to smart buildings to smart cities, we are helping organizations use the combination of Azure IoT, Digital Twins, and Mesh, to help digitize people, places, and things, in order to visualize, simulate, and analyze any business process,” further reiterated Satya Nadella.

With the number of active Teams Rooms devices almost increasing by double year after year and hybrid work seemingly turning out to be the norm, Microsoft is aiming for Mesh for Teams. Mesh for Teams allows users to take part in 2D and 3D space meetings through VR-based collaboration. Satya Nadella, said, “the idea is to bring the metaverse to Teams, helping employees at organizations like Accenture access a shared immersive experience where they can have watercooler-type conversations, and even whiteboarding sessions.”

Nadella insists that Microsoft continues to enlarge its share in Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN), along with Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) with companies such as Chevron, Bank of Montreal, NetApp, LVMH, and General Motors turning to Teams to achieve their internal and external collaboration needs.

In addition to the above, with Microsoft’s planned takeover of Activision Blizzard, the firm is on course to invest its assets in a move aimed at making it hassle-free for users to enjoy playing games “wherever, whenever, and however they want,” as well as to “shape what comes next for gaming as platforms like the metaverse develop,” said Satya Nadella.
