Tesla Jolt is an online slot game by provider NoLimit City that pays homage to the great Serbian man of science and inventor Nikola Tesla.

Tesla, as you may or may not know, invented or contributed to many of the inventions that have helped form our modern society, including wireless transmission. Nevertheless, at the end of his life, he was forced to work as a labourer and died penniless after being cheated out of his patents by Thomas Edison and his friends.

The 5×3 grid is set in a dark attic, obviously the great man’s workshop, as there is electric equipment and weird machines scattered everywhere. The 20-payline grid is placed on a drawing board, and the minimalist soundtrack adds to the electrifying atmosphere. 

There are 12 different symbols in the main game, 9 regulars and 3 special symbols. The low-paying symbols are rather unimaginative card suits 10–A, although they can be a bit hard to identify due to the squiggly 19th-century font. The minimum payout for these is 0.25x the bet for three tens on a payline, and awards rise steadily to reach a maximum of 7.5x the bet for 5 aces.  

Things get more interesting where the premium symbols are concerned, both in terms of design and rewards. These are a 1930s-style lamp, a plug, a switch and a dynamo. The rewards for landing combinations of premiums start at 0.50x the bet for 3 plugs and increase to a max of 37.5x the bet for 5 dynamos across a payline.  

The special symbols are Tesla’s AC conductor, which acts as a wild and also payouts at the same level as the dynamo if it forms its own combinations. The other two special symbols are the Tesla jolt symbol and the great man himself, Nikola Tesla, as the scatter. 

The betting range is from 0.20 to 100 per spin, and the RTP is slightly higher than the industry average at 96.66%. And very surprisingly for a game from this provider, the volatility is rated as low and the top win is a modest 582x the bet.

This might disappoint NoLimit City fans who enjoy the extreme maths models and high potential wins of games like Tombstone. But it makes for relaxing gameplay that allows the player to take in the game’s excellent graphics. 

Game Features

The Tesla Jolt is a random feature that can trigger during the base game. When the tesla jolt symbol lands on reel 5, it turns all instances of a randomly selected regular symbol on the reels wild before transforming into a wild itself. 

Landing 3, 4, or 5 Tesla scatter symbols awards 10, 15, or 20 free spins, or Tesla Spins, as the developers have named the round. When these kick off, three small globes appear below reels 2, 3, and 4. Any wild that lands on one of those reels is collected in the respective sphere, charging it. Once these spheres are fully charged, they will discharge wilds onto their reel. 

It takes three collected wilds to get a sphere to discharge its wilds onto the reels, but there is another way. A time-lapse trigger, a special clock symbol, can land on reel 5 only to trigger the charging wilds.
