Dungeon Quest is a 5×7, 29 payline game by one of the most innovative providers around at the moment, NoLimit City.

For this game, the designers have obviously decided to take a break from the gritty graphics and dark themes that have made the studio famous, or rather, infamous. This is a cheerful, fantasy-themed game with cartoon-style graphics. But in true NoLimit style, it comes packed with original and entertaining bonus features.

The unusually shaped grid stands out against the background of a cave that descends deep underground. Whether this is a mine or the entrance to the dungeon in the title, it’s hard to tell, but either way, it would take nerves of steel to enter. And that’s obviously what our four heroes have as they charge eagerly into the depth from the left of the grid. 

The reels themselves hold nine symbols in total, four different coloured ores as the low pays, and four gems of matching colours as the premiums. The ores are all worth the same, awarding 0.2x, 0.4x. And 1.5x the bet for combinations of 3, 4, or 5.

The premium symbols also share the same payout values of 0.25x, 0.75x, and 5x the bet for 3, 4, or 5 on a payline. These are joined by a wild that will help form combinations of regular symbols and also award a prize of 5x the bet for 5 on a payline. 

Game Features

Players have three bonus features to look forward to on their journey through the mines. Two of these, the Power Stone feature and the Gem Force feature, trigger at random during the base game, and the Alchemy Spins bonus round kicks in when three scatters appear anywhere on the grid. 

Power Stone

It seems the power stones are lodged in the roof of the mine, because when this feature kicks in at random, the mine starts to shake and a 2×2 power stone comes crashing onto the grid. All symbols covered by the power stone transform into wilds, but the magic doesn’t stop there. One of the ore symbols will also be chosen at random, and all instances of it on the reels will also transform into wilds. 

Gem Force

In this feature, we see our heroes in action. One of the figures beside the grid will come to life and transform all instances of an ore symbol into the matching gem symbol. As the symbols tend to land stacked in Dungeon Quest, this has the potential to form multiple valuable combinations across the paylines. 

Alchemy Spins

The Philosopher’s Stone was the Holy Grail of alchemy, as it was believed to have the power to turn base metal into gold. In this game, it acts as the scatter, and when three or more appear on the reels, it transforms the base game into the Alchemy Spins bonus round of four free spins. This might seem quite a low number, but the philosopher’s stone continues to exert its influence, transforming all instances of one of the ore symbols into sticky wilds.
