Sending ETH From Coinbase to MetaMask | A Complete Manual

First things first, you need to have a Coinbase wallet if you are to transfer digital assets through the exchange. Here is how you need to set one up:

• Download Coinbase’s mobile app and click on the Create New Wallet section
• Review and accept the Terms of Service and the Privacy Policy
• Choose a username. You can change it later, but note that you are limited to just one change per year.
• Set your privacy preferences
• Choose your security method – biometric authentication and a password are your choices.
• Receive and remember your 12-word seed phrase.
• Enter the seed phrase to complete the wallet creation.

Coinbase is not connected to MetaMask, so you will need to move your ETH assets to your newly created non-custodial Coinbase Wallet. Once again, this is a very straightforward procedure:

• Open the Wallet app on your device, head to Settings and choose Connect to Coinbase.
• Follow the onscreen instructions and sign in to your Coinbase account.
• Go to Settings and choose the Buy or Transfer section.
• Select ETH assets, the amount to transfer and confirm the transaction.

Now, we switch our focus to MetaMask. You can use it as a mobile app for both Android and iOS devices, or you add it to your desktop browser as an extension. Once you download the app, the account creation process would go as follows:

• Click on the Create a Wallet button and agree to the Terms of Service.
• Choose a password (of course, we suggest you use the strongest possible password you can think of).
• You will now receive a unique seed phrase.
• Remember the seed phrase and rewrite it in the selected field. Remember not to lose your recovery phrase at any time, so find a safe place to hide it.

You are almost there, as this is the last set of steps you have to complete to transfer your Ether holdings to MetaMask:

• Open the Coinbase Wallet.
• Click on the Recovery Phrase under the Settings tab.
• Enter your 12-word seed phrase.
• Open MetaMask and choose the field that says “Import using secret recovery phrase”.
• Enter the recovery phrase from Coinbase, choose a new password and confirm the process.
• The new account on the import page should be visible now.
• Click on the Coins tab and select ETH, then the amount you want to transfer
• Make sure your MetaMask wallet is on the ETH/ERC20 network.
• Enter the recipient address from your MetaMask and hit the Send button – voila, you have successfully transferred ETH from Coinbase to MetaMask!
